Optimizing Google Places Accounts

For the past week I have been in NYC at a convention know as Affiliate Summit East.  While I was there I had a chance to speak to Bruce Clay, one of the worlds most well respected and knowledgeable people about Search Engine Optimization.  We talked for a couple hours about SEO tactics and tricks.   I started grilling him on things like link building and how to get the best quality leads out there.  Then we got talking about how to optimize my Google Places account.

What is Google Places?

For those of you that don’t know what’s going on, on the internet.  Everything is having a larger focus on local businesses and local in general.  Google wants to help small local businesses out by giving them a boost in local rankings with “Google Place” it’s Googles way of giving local businesses a shot at being at the top of rankings while helping people find local businesses online in an easy way.

How can I boost my Google Places Listing?

It’s really not that hard, it just takes time.  There are around 40 big sites that you can put your listing on.  Make sure that you first start with Google Places and then move to other sites that list local businesses.  Make sure that you put in everything you can into every listing possible.  There are 100’s of sites that you can do this on.  Make sure that you are matching the information correctly and the same across the board.  Make sure that your address, phone number, and all information is the SAME across the board.  If it doesn’t match this could hurt you more than help you.  Having your correct info the same across the board is one of the best ways to optimize your Google Places listing.  Local business internet marketing is becoming much more important in the online space.

Other Sites like Google Places

Yelp.com, yellowbot.com, local.c om, hotfrog.com, showmelocal.com, shopcity.com, mojopages.com, manta.com and many other sites.  There are around 40 TOP sites and around 350 ok sites.  Getting on all the top 40 sites will not only guarantee you a PR4 ranking or above, but it will help optimize your Google Places account above your competitors.
